UPLEAD VS DATAMAGNET

UpLead Sells Contacts. Datamagnet Returns Live Profiles.

UpLead is a searchable database of 200M+ B2B contacts with verified work emails and mobile numbers. Datamagnet is an API that fetches the live profile behind a URL at the moment you ask, and returns neither emails nor phones. Neither is a clean replacement for the other, so this page is about which record your next step actually needs.

Datamagnet vs UpLead: the short answer

UpLead and Datamagnet do different jobs. UpLead is a self-serve B2B contact database — 200M+ records with verified work emails, mobile numbers and a 95% accuracy guarantee — that a rep searches, filters and exports. Datamagnet is a real-time profile data API: you POST a profile or company URL and get the page as it reads at that moment, one credit per lookup. Datamagnet returns no email addresses and no phone numbers. Choose UpLead when the next step is contacting someone. Choose Datamagnet when the next step is code reading a current profile.

Our verdict

UpLead is a well-built self-serve contact database and the accuracy guarantee is the honest kind — verification runs against live mail servers at unlock, a credit is only spent when an email comes back Valid or Accept All, and credits come back if accuracy falls short. For a small team that needs reachable contacts without an enterprise contract, it is a reasonable buy, and Datamagnet does not compete for that job at all. What UpLead is not is a live data source. Records come from a stored database, lookups key on emails and domains rather than LinkedIn URLs, and nothing in the product covers posts, engagement or job-change signals. Datamagnet is the better fit when the consumer of the data is code and the question is what a profile says right now.

Which one should you pick?

Straight guidance, including the cases where we're the wrong answer.

Choose Datamagnet if

  • The thing calling the API is your product, pipeline or agent — not a rep exporting a list
  • You need the profile as it reads today, not the version stored at the last database refresh
  • You want post content, commenters, reactors and reposters as structured JSON
  • You need job-change and engagement signals delivered by webhook, which UpLead does not offer
  • You want full API access on a self-serve plan rather than on a custom annual contract
  • Your volume makes a $0.60 overage credit hard to justify for records you will only read

Choose UpLead if

  • You need verified work email addresses — Datamagnet does not return emails at all
  • You need direct dial or mobile numbers so a rep can pick up the phone
  • You want an accuracy guarantee with credits back on bad records; Datamagnet offers no equivalent because it sells no contact data
  • Your team prospects in a UI — search, filter, select, push to CRM — rather than writing code
  • You want a Chrome extension for capturing leads while browsing; Datamagnet has none
  • You need buyer intent data or technographics, neither of which Datamagnet collects
  • You need coverage of people who have no useful public profile

UpLead capabilities are summarized from their public documentation and pricing pages, last checked July 2026. Products change — verify against their current offering before you buy.

Both cost one credit. They are not the same credit.

UpLead spends a credit to unlock one contact or one company from its stored database, and that unlock includes a verified email and often a mobile number — the expensive part of a record to produce and keep clean. Datamagnet spends a credit to fetch one profile live, and returns no email and no phone. The gap between $0.60 and $0.02 is not UpLead overcharging. It is two products priced on what they cost to make, and the only useful question is which record your next step consumes.

  • If the next step is an email or a call, UpLead is the credit worth buying
  • If the next step is scoring, routing, personalising or storing, you are paying for contact details you will not use
  • Plenty of teams run both — UpLead for reachable contact data, Datamagnet for the live profile context around it

Annual Essentials is billed as 2,040 credits for the year and annual Plus as 4,800. UpLead's terms state credits are "use it or lose it" between subscription terms and that plans auto-renew unless cancelled 60 days in advance. Its API docs also reference Elite and Enterprise tiers that are not listed on the public pricing page. Competitor pricing is taken from their public pricing page and was last checked July 2026; list prices change and negotiated rates differ. See Datamagnet pricing for our current plans.

Where each tool genuinely wins

No tool wins everywhere. Here's the honest split.

Where UpLead wins

  • Verified work email addresses, which Datamagnet does not return at all — for an outbound team that is the entire job
  • Direct dial and mobile numbers, so a rep can call the same day they find someone
  • A 95% accuracy guarantee with credits returned when data falls short, plus real-time verification against live mail servers at unlock; Datamagnet offers nothing comparable
  • A prospecting UI with 50+ filters and a Chrome extension that a non-technical rep can use on day one
  • Buyer intent data and 16K+ technology data points, neither of which Datamagnet collects
  • Native CRM sync to Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive and Zoho, plus 1,500+ apps through Zapier
  • Coverage beyond public profiles — 200M+ contacts and 16M+ companies across 200+ countries, including people with thin or no public profile
  • Like Datamagnet, it does not charge when it finds nothing: "pay for results, not API calls"

Where Datamagnet wins

  • Every profile fetched at request time rather than served from a database snapshot
  • Lookups keyed on a public LinkedIn URL, which UpLead accepts only as an output field
  • Post content, commenters, reactors and reposters as structured JSON
  • Six job-change and engagement signal types delivered by HMAC-signed webhook
  • ICP people search, Sales Navigator URL search, and an instant database of previously enriched profiles
  • Full API on every plan, self-serve, with no annual contract and no 60-day cancellation notice
  • Credits, not seats — nothing in the pricing scales with headcount
  • Charged only on successful requests, with 10 free credits and no card to start

Datamagnet vs UpLead: FAQ

Only for part of the job. UpLead is a searchable database of 200M+ B2B contacts that returns verified work emails and mobile numbers, backed by a 95% accuracy guarantee that returns credits when data falls short. Datamagnet is a real-time data API returning profile, company, post and engagement data as JSON, and it returns no email addresses and no phone numbers. If you need contactable details, Datamagnet will not replace UpLead. If you need live profile context, it will.

Yes. UpLead documents Person, Company, Combined, Prospector, Prospector Pro and Quick Search endpoints at docs.uplead.com, authenticated by API key and limited to 500 requests per minute, with one credit charged per contact or company returned. UpLead's pricing page puts full API access on the custom, annually billed Professional plan, and its docs restrict Prospector Pro, Quick Search, Industries and Lists to Professional, Elite and Enterprise. Datamagnet includes its full API on every plan from $39 a month.

Not as an input. UpLead's Person API accepts an email address, or a first name, last name and company domain; the Company API accepts a domain, company name or internal ID. LinkedIn URLs appear in UpLead responses as an output field but cannot be used to look anyone up. Datamagnet works the other way round: you POST a public LinkedIn profile or company URL and get that page back as structured JSON, fetched at request time.

UpLead Essentials is $99 a month for 170 credits, or $74 a month billed annually for 2,040 credits a year. Plus is $199 a month for 400 credits, or $149 a month billed annually for 4,800 credits. Both include one user. Professional is custom priced and billed annually only. Extra Essentials credits cost $0.60 each, a seven-day free trial gives five credits, and one credit unlocks one contact or one company.

No. UpLead's terms state that credits not used within a subscription term do not roll over into the renewal term — "credits are use it or lose it". Subscriptions also renew automatically unless cancelled at least sixty days before the renewal date, and fees are non-refundable. Datamagnet subscription credits reset monthly as well, but its pay-as-you-go credit packs stay valid for twelve months and carry no contract or notice period.

Many teams do, because they cover different halves of a record. UpLead supplies the reachable details — verified work email, direct dial, mobile — that Datamagnet does not collect at all. Datamagnet supplies the live profile behind the person: current title and tenure, recent posts, who engaged with them, and job-change signals delivered by webhook. A common pattern is sourcing contacts in UpLead and keeping those records current with Datamagnet signals instead of re-exporting lists.
