THE ROCKETREACH ALTERNATIVE FOR DATA

RocketReach Finds Contact Details. Datamagnet Returns Live Profiles.

RocketReach is a per-seat contact database built to hand a rep an email address and a mobile number. Datamagnet is a data API: you POST a public LinkedIn URL and get that person, company or post as it reads at the moment you ask.

Datamagnet vs RocketReach: the short answer

RocketReach is a per-seat contact database — 700M+ stored profiles and 60M companies, sold from $33 to $175 per seat per month on annual billing — built to hand a rep a verified email address or a mobile number from its web app, Chrome extension or API. Datamagnet is a data API only: you POST a public LinkedIn URL and get that person, company or post fetched live at request time, for 1 credit, with no seats anywhere in the pricing. Choose RocketReach if people need contact details to run outreach. Choose Datamagnet if code needs current public profiles, post engagement and job-change signals.

Our verdict

RocketReach is a good contact database and a thin data platform. If the job is putting a verified email and a mobile number in front of a rep, it does that well, from a browser extension, with org charts, technographics and intent attached — and Datamagnet does none of it. But RocketReach's API is sold alongside a plan rather than on its own: your plan tier sets your rate limits, a lookup can queue and return asynchronously, and the profile it hands back comes from the database RocketReach maintains rather than the page as it reads now. Datamagnet is the better fit when the consumer is a service and what it needs is the profile as it stands today.

Which one should you pick?

Straight guidance, including the cases where we're the wrong answer.

Choose Datamagnet if

  • The thing calling the API is your product, a data pipeline or an agent — not a rep in a browser tab
  • You need the profile as it reads right now — title, employer, headline, recent activity — not a stored record of unknown age
  • You want post content, commenters, reactors and reposters as structured data
  • You want ICP search, live people search, or the ability to POST a Sales Navigator search URL
  • You want job-change and engagement signals delivered to an HMAC-signed webhook
  • You do not want to license a seat for every machine that reads data

Choose RocketReach if

  • Your team needs verified work emails, direct dials and mobile numbers — Datamagnet returns none of them
  • Your reps or recruiters work from a Chrome extension on social sites and company websites; Datamagnet has no extension
  • You need org charts and technographics on target accounts, neither of which Datamagnet builds
  • You want buying-intent topics telling you which accounts are already in market
  • You need people whose public LinkedIn profile is thin or missing — RocketReach searches a 700M-record database, while Datamagnet can only return what a LinkedIn URL resolves to
  • You want email verification on lists you already own, or multi-step email sequences, in the same subscription as the data

RocketReach capabilities are summarized from their public documentation and pricing pages, last checked July 2026. Products change — verify against their current offering before you buy.

A lookup and a fetch are not the same operation

A RocketReach lookup asks RocketReach what it already knows. That is why its API can answer waiting, searching or progress before it answers complete, and why its own documentation now steers integrators toward webhooks rather than polling for a result. A Datamagnet request goes and reads the public profile at that moment and returns it in the response. The difference shows up in two places a buyer feels: how old the answer is, and whether your code has to model a job queue to get one.

  • RocketReach — look a person up by name, email, phone or LinkedIn URL; the answer is what the database holds, and it may arrive asynchronously
  • Datamagnet — POST a public LinkedIn URL; the answer is the profile as it reads at that moment, in the response body
  • RocketReach's rate limits scale with the seat you bought: person lookup runs at 15 requests a minute on Essentials and 100 on Ultimate
5 statuses
A RocketReach lookup can return waiting, searching, progress, complete or failed. A Datamagnet request either returns data or is not charged.

RocketReach sells API access with a plan rather than as a standalone self-serve product, and custom API packages start at $6,000 a year. Your plan sets your throughput: its docs list person lookup at 15 requests a minute on Essentials, 50 on Pro, 100 on Ultimate and 250 on Custom, under a global ceiling of 10 requests a second. Since February 2026 API usage draws on a single Universal Credits pool, metered per action — 1 credit for person enrichment, 2 for a professional email, 6 for phone data. Competitor pricing is taken from their public pricing page and was last checked July 2026; list prices change and negotiated rates differ. See Datamagnet pricing for our current plans.

Where each tool genuinely wins

No tool wins everywhere. Here's the honest split.

Where RocketReach wins

  • Verified work emails, direct dials and mobile numbers — the thing most outbound and recruiting teams are actually buying, and Datamagnet returns none of it
  • A Chrome extension that pulls contact and company details while you browse popular social sites and company websites, which is the workflow most reps live in and one Datamagnet has no answer for
  • A stored database of 700M+ profiles and 60M companies that is not keyed to LinkedIn, so it reaches people whose public profile is thin or missing — and it is searchable the minute you log in
  • Org charts, technographics and buying-intent topics on target accounts — three account-selection inputs Datamagnet does not build, and the intent catalogue grew past 35,000 topics in February 2026
  • Multi-step email sequences with AI-drafted follow-ups, reply and bounce tracking, and scheduled list refreshes in Autopilot: RocketReach ships the sending side, and Datamagnet has no outreach features at all
  • Email verification on lists you already own through RocketReach Verify, free for existing users while it is in beta
  • An official MCP server, launched 22 July 2026, that lets ChatGPT and Claude query its contact database over OAuth 2.1 against the credits an account already holds
  • Unlimited lookups on annual seats, plus a single Universal Credits pool for API usage with per-action costs published in its docs

Where Datamagnet wins

  • Every profile fetched live at request time rather than served from a stored record of unknown age
  • Post content, commenters, reactors and reposters as structured data — RocketReach exposes none of it
  • ICP search, live people search and Sales Navigator URL search, all through the API
  • Six job-change and engagement signal types delivered by HMAC-signed webhook or email digest
  • No per-seat pricing anywhere: you buy requests, and a service does not need a licence
  • Charged only on successful requests, with 10 free credits and no card to test first
  • One credit covers the whole person or company profile, where RocketReach's Universal Credits meter 2 for a professional email, 3 for a personal one and 6 for phone data
  • Self-serve from a $10 pay-as-you-go pack, credits valid for 12 months — no seat minimum, no annual term, no sales call

Datamagnet vs RocketReach: FAQ

They solve different problems. RocketReach is a per-seat contact database — 700 million stored profiles and 60 million companies, sold from $33 per seat per month on annual billing — built to hand a rep a verified email address or a mobile number. Datamagnet is a data API: you POST a public LinkedIn URL and it fetches that person, company or post live at request time for 1 credit, with no seats and no contact details attached.

RocketReach publishes US annual-billing seat rates of $33 per seat per month for Essentials, which covers unlimited email lookups; $75 for Pro, which adds phone lookups and technographics; and $175 for Ultimate, which adds 20,000 exports a year, intent data and single sign-on. Custom Team plans for five or more users start at $6,000 a year. Monthly billing is available at a higher rate, and unlimited lookups apply to annual terms.

Yes. RocketReach's Contact Data API covers people search, people lookup, bulk lookup and company endpoints, and it accepts a LinkedIn profile URL as a lookup input. RocketReach sells it with a plan rather than as a standalone self-serve product, with custom API packages starting at $6,000 a year, and your plan sets your throughput: the docs list person lookup at 15 requests per minute on Essentials, 50 on Pro, 100 on Ultimate and 250 on Custom, under a global ceiling of 10 per second.

No, and deliberately. Datamagnet returns structured public profile data — person and company profiles, posts, engagement, search results and signals — and nothing else. It does not find email addresses, does not verify them, and does not supply direct dials or mobile numbers. RocketReach does all three. Teams that need both usually pair Datamagnet for live profile data and job-change signals with a contact provider for the outreach details.

Structurally, Datamagnet. RocketReach serves records from a stored database of 700 million profiles, so any given record has an age you cannot see — RocketReach itself recommends looking contacts up again every one to two months to catch job changes, and it re-verifies emails at request time. Datamagnet reads the public profile at the moment of your request, so title, employer and recent posts reflect today. RocketReach's coverage is far broader; Datamagnet's records are never stale.

When your users are people rather than services. If reps or recruiters need a verified email address and a mobile number, found from a Chrome extension while they browse social sites and company websites, with org charts, technographics and intent data on the account, RocketReach is built for exactly that and Datamagnet does none of it. Datamagnet is the better fit when code consumes the data and needs current public profiles, post engagement and job-change signals.
